This number is as of midnight Friday.

Health system Director Bruce Robistow said in his afternoon update, there breakdown is as follows:

91 cumulative positive cases; one related death; and 52 patient recoveries.

There are 10 tests pending and out of 556 confirmed tests, 455 have come back negative.

The Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code accounts for 33 positive cases and the one death, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ novel coronavirus dashboard.

According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, 17 of the county’s positive cases have been reported from Caledonia Correctional Institution in Tillery.

The latest graph from the health system shows the trend continues to rise, Robistow said in the update, “reaching our highest number of positives in one day since we started monitoring.”

Said Robistow: “This spike should be taken very seriously. Although our numbers may be small, an increasing trend is a good indicator of the fact that more tests are being performed, and that we cannot forget the importance of following the executive orders and recommendations.” Robistow reminds county residents to practice appropriate social distancing, handwashing, respiratory hygiene, and wearing facial coverings when out in public.
