Eric Lamont Martin, wanted in the shooting deaths of two people in Roanoke Rapids and another person in Columbus County, is in custody, according to court records and the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.

Martin was booked in Columbus County on Sunday after he was apprehended in Wake County on Saturday. According to court records, he signed an affidavit of indigency in Columbus County District Court this morning. He is tentatively scheduled to appear in Halifax County District Court on Wednesday.

Roanoke Rapids police have charged him in the June 22 shooting deaths of Mariah Thompson, 15, and 20-year-old Patrick Shane Faircloth, both of Whiteville. He also faces a murder charge in Columbus County, stemming from the June 11 shooting death of Rapheal Gowans.

In addition to Martin, Isaiah Napoleon Cooper has been charged as an accessory in both cases and is being held under a $400,000 secured bond in Columbus County, according to court records. Cooper is tentatively scheduled to appear in Halifax County District Court on Wednesday and in Columbus County on July 21.

Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Lawrence Wiggins said Thursday that investigators are working with Columbus County authorities to determine whether there is a connection between the three shooting deaths.
