A Seaboard man died Monday from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash on Garysburg Road, according to Gaston Police Chief C.W. Bowser.

The Gaston Police Department was dispatched to the collision at 607 Garysburg Road in the township of Gaston.

Bowser reported that Angelo Levon Lassiter, 52, of Seaboard, was driving a 2008 Ford Escape eastbound on Garysburg Road when the vehicle ran off the roadway to the right. The vehicle struck a business sign and then collided with a tree before coming to a stop.

Lassiter was pinned inside the vehicle and suffered critical injuries.

Members of Gaston Fire and Rescue Station 12 responded to the scene and extricated him from the wreckage.

Northampton County EMS transported Lassiter to ECU Health North Hospital. He was subsequently airlifted by helicopter for further treatment at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, but he succumbed to his injuries during the flight.

“Please keep the family of Mr. Lassiter in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Bowser said. “I would also like to thank Gaston Fire & Rescue, Northampton County EMS, and Northampton County Communications for their hard work during this tragic event.”
