A crash involving three vehicles in the Murfreesboro area Friday resulted in the death of a 30-year-old Roanoke Rapids woman, the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald of Ahoskie reported.

Breiana Latrice Boyce lost her life in the crash, which occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on the Murfreesboro Bypass at its intersection with Charlie Powell Road.

According to the report filed by North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Zach Mize, Boyce was operating a 2023 Nissan passenger car north on Charlie Powell Road. As she attempted to cross the four-lane bypass, Boyce’s car was struck by a 2025 GMC Sierra operated by Brian Jones, 52, of Chesapeake. The GMC, traveling west on the bypass, was pulling a trailer carrying two jet skis.

The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

After impact, Boyce’s car traveled off the road to the left, struck a stop sign and a ditch, and caught fire. The GMC ran off the right side of the road and struck a ditch.

Boyce was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jones and his passenger, 43-year-old Erin Jones, also of Chesapeake, were not seriously injured.

The third vehicle involved was a Ford SUV stopped at the stop sign on the opposite side of Charlie Powell Road. Neither the driver, Kimberly Brooks, 48, of Murfreesboro, nor the passenger, Clarice Wiggins, 72, of Ahoskie, was injured by flying debris from the collision.

No charges were filed.

The fatality was the 10th in the NCSHP Troop A / District II area this year. Six of those fatalities have occurred in Hertford County.
