Some 800 cyclists participating in the 2026 Cycle NC Mountains to Coast will arrive in Halifax County on October 7.

“Visit Halifax is leading the effort to ensure they enjoy their time in Halifax County,” said Lori Medlin, president and CEO of Visit Halifax.

Their first stop will be Timber Waters in Littleton. From there, they will travel to HL Pike Store on Justice Branch Road before going to Historic Halifax. 

They will end the day in Weldon with entertainment, overnight camping, beer and bourbon tastings, and time to explore local restaurants. “Visit Halifax is delighted to work with Cycle NC to bring visitors to Halifax County,” Medlin said. “We have a wonderful day planned for them and encourage everyone to be extra careful on October 7 as they see the cyclists in our area.”

The tour is the state’s only fully-supported ride. Luggage is transported in vehicles from one overnight host community to the next; rider support vehicles are available to aid cyclists who experience physical or mechanical trouble; outdoor camping areas with amenities are set up in overnight host communities; and rest stops will be available every 15-20 miles along the route, with beverages and snacks for all participants.  

This year the tour begins a new route for the tour and marks the 27th  anniversary of the first Mountains to Coast Ride, held in 1999 and running from Murphy to Manteo.  

This year’s event is scheduled for a Mount Airy to Hatteras Island trek from October 4 to October 10, with October 3 serving as the check-in day.   

Cycle NC will begin its full-service, cross-state ride on October 4 from Veterans Memorial Park in Mount Airy and will arrive at the Salvo Day Use Area on Hatteras Island on October 10, with roughly 800 cyclists in tow. The cyclists represent 38 states, Washington, D.C., Canada, Brazil, and Austria.  

The youngest cyclist to ride for the entire week is 12-years-old, while the oldest participant is 89-years-old.
