The Kirkwood Adams Community Center is on the list for early voting sites in the 2020 general election in November.

Halifax County Board of Elections Director Kristin Scott said this morning early voting is scheduled from October 15 through October 31.

The selected locations are the Halifax County Cooperative Extension Agricultural Center Auditorium in Halifax; Kirkwood Adams in Roanoke Rapids; and the Enfield Fire Department substation in the Ringwood area.

Scott said a fifth location could be assigned if the state decides to let local boards of election set their own early voting hours rather than adhering to the current 12-hour regulations.

Roanoke Rapids City Manager Joseph Scherer confirmed this morning he has provided the dates to the parks and recreation department, which oversees the center, for its October calendar.

Scott said that currently the elections are to proceed as they normally do with registered voters coming to their regular precincts to cast ballots.

The board is looking at personal protective equipment and funding for it for poll workers. Social distancing rules will be in effect.
