Historic Halifax is holding a socially-distanced candlelight tour of restored homes and public buildings which are decorated for the holiday season with greenery and all-natural materials.

The event is Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A warm fire will be lit in the Tap Room Tavern and visitors can learn about holiday traditions of long ago.

The following historic site buildings will be decorated for this tour: the c1760 Owens House, the c1780s Tap Room Tavern, the c1806 Burgess Law Office and the c1790s Eagle Tavern.

The Historical Halifax Restoration Association will also open the Bradford Denton House, adjacent to the historic site.

Additionally, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Halifax County Underground Railroad non-profit will offer children’s crafts at the Edward Cheek House Museum, across the street from the historic site visitor center.

This year, the tour’s format is designed to conform to COVID-19 restrictions and all executive orders.

Masks will be required inside all buildings and outside when social distancing is not possible.  No more than eight participants will be allowed inside each building at one time.

Tickets are required and a limited number are available.

Tickets are timed-entry and allow visitors one-hour time slots, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., to attend the event with participants choosing the hour they wish to visit.

Tickets are available online through Eventbrite or in person at the Visitor Center of Historic Halifax State Historic Site, 25 Saint David St., Halifax, NC.
