A Better Chance A Better Community, better known as ABC2, is hosting a Virtual 5K charity run throughout the month of December.
The event is being sponsored by ABC2’s World Changers program, which empowers young people in Eastern North Carolina and around the world by providing life skills that promote positive values, healthy habits, and education.
This Second Annual Produce Run celebrates the second anniversary of ABC2’s Community Farm of Hope, Prosperity, and Change.
This year saw a 15 percent increase in food insecurity due to the impacts of the global pandemic.

ABC2 has distributed 359 tons of food since March 2020 to address this increased need.
It is clear that food insecurity will continue in 2021.

The proceeds of this event will support the ABC2 Food Security Program which provides weekly food distribution at four locations in Halifax, Nash and Edgecombe counties in Eastern North Carolina.
In addition, the Power in the Produce Run will provide long term financial support ABC2 Community Farm Educational programs which support youth farmers and chefs in training.

The Power in the Produce is a Virtual 5K which means you choose to complete the race wherever you would like in the month of December. You can walk, run, or use a treadmill — you choose your pace and your place. Entry fees are $15 for general participants and $25 for competitive racers. Groups and teams are welcome and encouraged.

ABC2 2020 Accomplishments
Community Farm of Hope Prosperity & Change
ABC2 planned, built, and maintained a community garden to promote healthy foods, self-sufficiency of resources, and collaborative agriculture. Approval and Funding to install a high tunnel/greenhouse for season extension.
Historic Halifax Farmers Market
ABC2 World Changers, The Hen & The Hog — a farm to table restaurant — and local farmers launched a weekly farmers market on Independence Day in downtown Halifax.
With fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, and more the Historic Halifax Farmers market aims to be a farmer and community-led market that contributes to the success of local producers and growers, expands access to farm-fresh foods and creates a vibrant, walkable community gathering space.
ABC2 FarmShare Produce Boxes
ABC2 partnered with Community Food Strategies and Working Landscapes to launch the FarmShare Program to support out-of-work or partially-employed restaurant and hospitality employees who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
ABC2 teamed up with local farmers from 4Ever Vista, FourTee Acres, Greenleaf Farms, Golden Organics, Lake Valley Farms, Grand Da Da Enterprises, and many others.
For eight weeks it provided the community with 50 boxes featuring farm fresh eggs, local honey, and a variety of produce.
ABC2 USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program
ABC2 was a community partner with Foster Caviness to coordinate and distribute food in Round 3 of the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program. ABC2 was able to coordinate four sites in three counties — Halifax, Nash, and Edgecombe counties — to service over 1,200 per site for seven weeks.
Each box contained 30 pounds of food .
ABC2 Community Feeding Program
ABC2 in partnership with The Hen and The Hog and a local chef in response to the pandemic in March 2020 began preparing and serving hot healthy inspired meals featuring produce from local farmers.
To date it has served 10,800 hot meals on Saturdays.
