The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

Tuesday shortly after 9:30 p.m. Officer J. DeSare was patrolling in the area of Buffaloe Street when he noticed a vehicle with no lights on. 

Officer DeSare pulled behind the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver, later identified as Audwin Parker Jr., was slow to stop and continued moving while blue lights and siren were activated. 

Parker, 31, of Roanoke Rapids, stopped in the area of Colony Woods Apartments. One passenger fled from the vehicle as the driver slowed to a stop.

Two other occupants still in the vehicle were removed once another officer came to assist.

DeSare noticed what appeared to be marijuana in the vehicle along with a white powder that was suspected to be fentanyl.  

DeSare also noticed an open container of alcohol and two cups with ice and alcohol in them as well.

Parker and the back passenger, Quincy Vann, 22, of the Roanoke Rapids area, were taken into custody.

Parker was charged with DWI, driving while license revoked, conspire to sell/deliver schedule VI, fail to burn headlamps, and possession of an open container.

He received a $10,000 bond and September 1 court date.

Vann was charged with possession of schedule II, conspire to sell/deliver schedule VI, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He received a $5,000 bond and the same court date as Parker.

Martin said police continue to investigate the identity of the passenger who fled and will be drawing warrants.

The police chief said 54 grams of marijuana and .04 grams of fentanyl was seized.

Lieutenant D. Jenkins and Sergeant O. Wiltsie assisted.

Last Friday shortly after 1:30 p.m. Officer K. Williams and Sergeant J. Spragins were on patrol in the area of Highway 158 near Mitchell Street when they noticed a vehicle displaying a registration plate that was revoked.

The officers conducted a traffic stop to speak with the driver, later identified as Matthew W. Harrison, 54, of the Roanoke Rapids area.

The officers reportedly noticed the smell of alcohol from the driver and discovered there was no insurance on the vehicle. Harrison was not licensed.

Harrison was charged with DWI and placed under a $300 bond. He has a September 24 court date.
