Earlier this month Governor Roy Cooper appointed Graves to serve as superior court judge in Judicial District 6A which serves Halifax County.

He fills the vacant seat created by the retirement of Alma Hinton.

“Norlan Graves brings years of legal knowledge and experience to the bench,” Cooper said. “I am confident that he will serve his district with honor and fairness.”

Graves is a special deputy attorney general for the North Carolina Department of Justice.

He previously served as an assistant district attorney for Judicial Districts 7 and 8.

Graves was previously an adjunct professor at Halifax Community College.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and his Juris Doctor at North Carolina Central University School of Law.
