Halifax County Commissioner John Smith, who was administered the oath of office in September after the death of his son the previous month, has decided he will file to run for his District 2 seat.
In a press release today Smith said, “It has been a privilege and an honor to serve as a member of the Halifax County Board of Commissioners. I would like to thank the citizens of Halifax County for their support and faith in me in regards to continuing to serve as Halifax County Commissioner.”
He said he plans to file in the near future.
Smith was appointed to fill the vacancy of his son Marcelle’s seat on the board through the first Monday in December of 2022 after which there will be an election that year for the balance of the term.
Marcelle died in August after suffering a stroke.
