A Roanoke Rapids man died Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Sam Powell Dairy Road.

Sergeant L. Bynum, according to a preliminary report by Trooper J.T. Keeter of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, said 38-year-old Michael Reid Crowder was traveling west on the road shortly after 1:45 p.m.

Crowder traveled off the roadway to the right and collided with several trees before the vehicle came to rest off the roadway. Bynum said Crowder was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The highway patrol is still investigating to determine the contributing factors.
