On Friday shortly before 4 p.m. officers D. Harrison and C. Roberts responded to the area of East Thirteenth Street and Virginia Avenue about a vehicle with an unresponsive occupant inside.

The officers woke the man, later identified as Ernest Hux, 40, of Roanoke Rapids, and got his vehicle into park.

Officers noticed an open container of beer in a cup holder and discovered he had an active order for arrest.

The officers found a powdery substance identified as 5 grams of fentanyl in a cigarette pack.

Hux was brought before a magistrate and charged with possession of schedule II, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of an open container, damage to property and the order for arrest for failure to appear in court for DWI.

He received a $20,500 bond and a Wednesday court date.
