A Halifax man was charged Thursday with 13 counts of larceny of motor vehicle parts — charges which are related to catalytic converter thefts across the area.

Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said James David Williams also faces one count of first-degree trespass after being developed as a reputed suspect in numerous catalytic converter thefts.

Hall said the thefts have occurred at private residences as well as automotive related businesses. The thefts include crimes in the Halifax and Roanoke Rapids areas. “He’s been a person of interest for quite some time.”

He received a $172,000 bond and Wednesday court date.

As of this report he remained confined to the Halifax County Detention Center, according to the online inmate search.

As the investigation continues more charges are expected.
