A Memorial Day service was held Monday at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

In his keynote remarks during the event, Sons of the American Revolution Halifax Resolves Chapter President Ken Wilson said, “Today we need to stop and reflect, regardless of our political affiliation, race, creed or religious belief, on the sacrifices that have been and are being made by so few for so many. Let us not take our freedoms for granted — these freedoms that have been purchased by the blood of so many over the past 246 years.”

Said Wilson: “Our fallen are buried in cemeteries around the world. Don’t forget that when we fought overseas, the only land we requested was enough land to bury our dead. There is more ground soaked in the blood of our heroes than we may want to think about, but we must. There is a saying among the veterans: ‘All Gave Some, Some Gave All.’  I want you to think about that ladies and gentleman. Today we honor the memory of those who gave their all for each of us.”
