After a lot of thought, prayer, conversations, and taking a long, hard look at how our city government works, I have made the decision to shift gears in my campaign. 

Instead of seeking the office of Mayor, I will be running for Roanoke Rapids City Council, District 1.

First, I want to make something very clear: this decision has nothing to do with any recent events that our city has endured. This is a decision I have been considering carefully for a few months as I have learned more about our city government during my research, the responsibilities of our elected officials, and where I believe I can make the greatest difference at this time.

The more I have studied our city and listened to people in our community, the more I have realized that City Council is where I believe I can roll up my sleeves, get to work, and have a direct impact on the issues affecting our neighborhoods.

And for me, District 1 isn't just another district in Roanoke Rapids. It's home.

I grew up in District 1, on the corner of Third and Franklin streets. 

My mother and my grandparents grew up here too. 

Today, I live on the 100 block of Monroe Street. These aren't just streets I drive down during campaign season. These are the streets that helped make me who I am.

I've spent most of my life connected to District 1. I've heard the stories about what our neighborhoods used to be like, when children played outside all day, neighbors knew one another, homes weren't sitting abandoned, and businesses were thriving.

We cannot turn back the clock, but that doesn't mean we have to accept decline as our future.

I want to work for stronger neighborhoods, safer streets, better infrastructure, responsible use of our tax dollars, support for local businesses, and a city government that listens to the people it represents. Most importantly, I want the people of District 1 to have a councilman who is accessible, who will listen, and who isn't afraid to ask difficult questions.

My goal hasn't changed. I want to serve Roanoke Rapids and help move our city forward. What has changed is where I believe I can be the most effective in doing that right now.

So today, I'm proud to announce my candidacy for Roanoke Rapids City Council — District 1.

This is my home. These are my neighbors. And this is personal to me.

District 1 has a proud history. Now let's fight for its future together.
