Roanoke Rapids police investigators believe two recent robberies may have been committed by the same person.

Those robberies include one at the Julian R. Allsbrook Highway Subway on July 30 and the July 22 robbery of Klix Internet Cafe.

Kunta Shearin currently faces a count of armed robbery in the Klix heist. He has not been located.

Chief Bobby Martin said in following up on leads in both robberies investigators believe the two may be connected and “we feel like it’s the same person.”

In the Subway robbery officers learned a person described as a Black male entered the store under the pretense of using the restroom. However, the person pointed a gun at one of the employees and demanded the registers be opened.

The man, who had a close haircut, wore a green sweater and stood around 6-feet tall, made the employees and a customer who had entered lie down. He told them to wait before they called the police or he would shoot them. The suspect fled the business with an undisclosed amount of money.

In the Klix robbery the suspect displayed a handgun and left with an undisclosed amount of money.

Officers spoke with several witnesses who provided identification. They set up a perimeter in the area and with assistance from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office conducted canine searches. Those searches led to the area around Walmart where it is believed that Shearin got a ride. Officers spent several hours trying to locate the man but were unable to do so.

Shearin tends to frequent areas within the city limits of Roanoke Rapids.
