A bridge on Aurelian Springs Road reopened this afternoon, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The department said last month the bridge, located near Blue Sky Road, was going to take longer than anticipated to repair.

The department said in its Twitter feed today some additional repairs will be needed later but can be done under flagging operations that will keep it open.

Work on the bridge south of Weldon began last month because the pavement was settling. Upon further investigation inspectors discovered two end bents supporting the bridge shifted and needed to be repaired.

An end bent is a part of the bridge that helps support the portion of the structure motorists drive on.
