Captain Patrick Jacobs of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office reported the following dispositions of cases made in superior court during the September 12 through 16 and September 19 through 23 terms:

James Long, 43, of Raleigh was found guilty after a two-day trial of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He received a minimum of four years and a maximum of six years in prison for the May 30, 2021 crime in which he shot a victim in the upper torso several times.

Jacobs had originally charged Long with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, injury to personal property, and assault by pointing a gun.

Tyronte Ponton, 26, of Garysburg pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree kidnapping, one count of solicitation of a juvenile by a computer device and appear, one count of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of indecent liberties with a child.

He received a minimum of 11 years and eight months and a maximum of 14 years and six months in prison.

The case stemmed from sex offenses committed with a 14-year-old girl as well as providing her marijuana during the period of November 1, 2020 through January 24, 2021.

Jacobs originally charged Ponton with two counts of statutory rape of a child under 15, indecent liberties with a child, misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and solicitation of a juvenile by a computer device and appear. 

Jacob Davis, 33, pleaded to one count of habitual felon, six counts of larceny of motor vehicle parts, six counts of misdemeanor injury to personal property, and six counts of possession of stolen goods.

Davis received a minimum of six years and a maximum of nine years in prison.

Lieutenant A. Collier investigated two cases of catalytic converter thefts – one on March 20, 2021 at a church in Conway – and the theft from vehicles at a business in Henrico on August 8, 2021.
