One person died and several others were injured early this morning following a shooting at a large party in the Enfield area.

Lieutenant Shane Guyant of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said a motive has not been established and detectives continue to investigate the shooting which occurred at Double D Ranch off Green Acres Road.

The name of the deceased is currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin and due to the ongoing investigation, Guyant said.

In a statement this morning Guyant said deputies located seven people who were injured at the event.

One person was injured while attempting to flee and has since been treated and released.

Four of five other people injured were reported to be in stable condition and one was airlifted to a trauma center.

The sheriff’s office received the call around 1:30 this morning and callers to 911 told dispatchers multiple people had been shot. When deputies arrived they located the ones who had been injured and one person who was deceased.

The sheriff’s office received information that this private party was being advertised on social media. The flier for the party stated the organizers would be providing security.

Detectives are being told the number of people at the party was in the hundreds.

No arrests have been made at this time, and information from the hundreds in attendance is, at this time, very limited.

The sheriff’s office is encouraging anyone who attended the event or others who might have information to contact the office at 252-583-8201 or by contacting Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
