Halifax County Schools has announced two principal transfers.

Chastity Kinsey has been named Principal of Everetts Elementary S.T.E.M. Academy for the 2023-2024 school year. 

With 23 years of experience in education, Kinsey has served in various roles throughout the district, including teacher, elementary instructional coach, teacher mentor, initially licensed teacher talk coach, assistant principal, and principal. 

As the assistant principal of Inborden Elementary S.T.E.A.M. Academy for three years and the principal of Inborden Elementary S.T.E.A.M. Academy for seven years, she has led the school to exceed growth expectations.

Chastity Kinsey is a native of Halifax County and a product of the Halifax County School System. 

She is the daughter of retired Halifax educators Yvonne Williams-Kinsey and William Solomon. “They instilled in her high moral values and principles that she carries with her daily,” the school system said.

Kinsey has one daughter, Tamaya, one dog daughter Kami, and one grand-dog Diesel.

“Kinsey is passionate about helping scholars succeed and believes in a holistic approach to education. She is thrilled to return to Tiger Land, where she began her career 23 years ago,” the system said. “Kinsey firmly believes that all students can learn and thrive with the proper support. She emphasizes the importance of instilling self-confidence and a sense of worth in students so that they can reach their full potential. Kinsey knows that students can achieve anything they set their minds to with love and encouragement.”

Superintendent Eric Cunningham said, "Ms. Kinsey's dedication to education and her students is truly inspiring. We are fortunate to have her as the new Principal of Everetts Elementary S.T.E.M. Academy. I do not doubt that she will continue to lead her students and staff to success."

Hedgepeth

Tonya Hedgepeth has been approved to serve as the new principal of Inborden Elementary S.T.E.A.M. Academy. 

Hedgepeth is no stranger to the school district, having served as the principal of Pittman Elementary Leadership Academy for two years. She is a product of Halifax County Schools, having attended Inborden Elementary, Enfield Middle, and Southeast Halifax High School.

Hedgepeth received her bachelor's in K-6 elementary education from Elizabeth City State University and has since dedicated her 31-year career to the school district and community. 

She began her educational journey as a substitute teacher, secretary, and teacher before becoming a master literacy teacher in grades K-6, an instructional coach, and ultimately the 2015-2016 Halifax County

Throughout her career, Hedgepeth has served in many leadership roles throughout the district and is a lifelong learner who seeks professional development opportunities to stay abreast of what is best for students of Halifax County. 

In her free time, Hedgepeth enjoys watching movies, shopping, decorating, and spending time with her family and friends. She is married to Andre Hedgepeth and has two daughters, Khyan and Andreysia. She is an avid reader who loves helping others.
