The Halifax County Arts Council’s Hearts for the Arts fundraiser will offer the top silent auction bidders a chance for a getaway in Maine or a local getaway on the Roanoke River in a rustic cabin.

The event set February 12 at the council’s gallery at 1027 Roanoke Avenue will also allow those who purchase a $50 ticket to take home art by a North Carolina artist. The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The $50 ticket is not required for bidding in the silent auction or to participate in the council’s raffle — it’s only for one of the pieces of art.

Yvonne Thompson, president of the council, said Betty Harris is donating her three-bedroom Maine home for a full week while J.W. Shearin has donated his 1940 fishing cabin in Weldon for a five-day getaway as well as a weekend getaway. Travel expenses to Maine are not included.

The fishing cabin includes a front dock for fishing. There are also bicycles for rides to Weldon Mills Distillery or the canal trail.

Thus far there are between 15 to 20 raffle prizes “and that’s just the beginning,” Thompson said.

The raffle prizes so far include $250 in gas cards, hair products, facials, gift certificates to restaurants, Weldon Mills as well as tickets to Lakeland.

Proceeds will be used to continue the arts council’s programs.
