The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who on Saturday night stole a victim’s car after snatching her cell phone and assaulting her.
Corporal R. Chin met the victim around 9 p.m. on Edwards Fork Road in the Scotland Neck area and learned the crime occurred on Bear Lane, Major Anzell M. Harris said in a statement released early this morning.

Chin learned that Demetrius Devantae Shields, 31, of Scotland Neck went into the victim’s car while the victim was in it and snatched a cell phone out of her hand and assaulted her. Shields took the victim's car from Bear Lane and left it at another location.
Chin located the vehicle in the area and returned it and the cell phone to the victim.
Shields faces charges of larceny of a motor vehicle, larceny from the person, breaking and entering a motor vehicle with theft, assault on a female and domestic violence.
The victim and Shields had been in a past relationship.
