Amarilis (Faye) Byrum, 76 years of age, from Roanoke Rapids, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 26, 2020 at Vidant Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. Davis and Ruby B. Davis, her husband, John (Shorty) Byrum, and her sister, Josie D. Brown. 

She was a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School, class of 1963 and worked at J.P. Stephens cotton mill.  She retired from Champion paper mill in 2006.

She was a firm believer in hard work and believed in doing a job to the best of your ability, no matter what the job was.  

She was a mother to so many through the years and her door was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay.    

She loved family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

She was a giver and nurturer, loved big, and always tried to find the good in people.  

She never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone.  

She loved with all her heart and forgave easily.  She was known for always telling you what was on her mind.  She loved working with her hands, whether planting in her yard or crafting.  

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Bennett (Keith), her sons Matthew C. Byrum (Wendy) and Thellie W. Byrum (Linda), nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great nephew, special nephews Parker L. Davis (Beverly) and Tim Brown, nieces Wanda Cadwell and Betty B. Eure (Butch), and a very special friend, Maxine Conner.

A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, September 30th, at 2 pm, at Askew Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC.  

The family will receive friends after the service.
