Janice Gardner Strickland, 71, died Saturday, November 24, 2018, at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill.

Ms. Strickland was the daughter of the late James Ernest and Gladys Elizabeth Rider Gardner born March 11, 1947 in Halifax County, NC.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Strickland was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Gardner Vaughan and brothers, Tommy Alford Gardner and James Ernest Gardner.

Surviving are her daughter, Cecilia Ball and husband, Roy; son Tommy Sanford and wife, Beth; sister, Barbara Silver; grandchildren, Cadence Ball, Haley Spivey, Emily and Taylor Sanford; special step-daughter, Crystal Moss and family; niece, Teresa Harrell and family; nephew, Curtis Vaughan and family. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Tony Vaughan and a sister-in-law, Janet Gardner.

The family will have a gathering of friends to remember Janice’s life Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids from 6-8 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made in the honor of Janice Gardner Strickland to: American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
