Shelby Wheeler Massey, 82 passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at her home surrounded by family. 

Shelby was born in Halifax County on July 28, 1940 to Burley and Edna Wheeler and was preceded in death by her mother, father, one daughter, Carla Ann Massey and her only son, Eugene McCoy Massey Jr., her sister Alean Williams, and her baby brother William “Bill” Wheeler. 

She is survived by her three daughters, Joanne Gilpin (Mark) of Tennessee, Barbara Massey Jones of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and Cynthia Bridgers of the home. Also surviving, are her ten loving grandchildren, Chris Moore (Beth), Shannon Williams (Troy), Jessica Moore (Chris), Tammy DeBerry (Kevin), Brandon Duncan (Ginger), Jack Bryant (Krystal), Ashelee Hester (Mark), Jennifer Massey, Jena Lynch (Brandon) and Cassidy Massey; her great-grandchildren, Jacob DeBerry, Chrishon Edmonds, Baylee Carroll, Taniyah Edmonds, Logan Williams, Gannon DeBerry, Carson Duncan, Mattie Moore, McKenzie Hendricks, Lucie Moore, Kennedy Coleman, Jaxson Duncan, Eli Lynch, Devin Williams and Austin Murvin, Lukas Moore and Two step-great-grandchild with one great-great grand on the way, Legend and many nieces, nephews and friends. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 6:30 until 8:00 PM at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 2:00PM at Askew Funeral & Cremations Chapel with burial to follow at Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
