Vernon Martin Daughtry 78, of Raleigh, formerly of Halifax, passed away Saturday February 9, 2019.

Vernon was a native of Halifax County and was the son of the late Vernon Hughes and Rosa Louise Hubbard Daughtry.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Edwards Daughtry and his brother, George Daughtry.

He was a long time member of Rosemary United Methodist Church and was retired from International Paper.

Vernon along with his wife, loved collecting and attending auctions. He was well known as the flag man at Chantilly speedway for many years. He also owned and operated Chantilly Septic tank cleaning service for 37 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy D. Pleasant and husband, Tim of Raleigh and his son, Marty Daughtry of Knightdale; his grandchildren, Holly P. Pleasant and her husband, Cameron of Raleigh and Rocky Pleasant of Wilmington; his sisters, Emily Hale of Halifax and Rose True and her husband, Wayne of Raleigh; his sister-in-laws, Carole Daughtry of Altamonte, Fl., Marie Harris of Weldon and Jean Edwards of Halifax.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 13, 2019 at 2 PM at Rosemary United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve McElroy and Rev. Charles Morrison officiating.

Interment will follow in Crestview memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8:30 at Askew Funeral and Cremation in Roanoke Rapids.
