Jack Goldberg, a beloved figure in the community, passed away on June 28, 2024.
He leaves behind his cherished wife, Myrna Goldberg and his children, Ben Goldberg (Sara) and Emily Goldberg (William Martin).
Jack's journey in Murfreesboro began in 1973 when he started his career as an announcer for WWDR.
His talent and passion for sports quickly elevated him to the position of sports director, where he became renowned for his play-by-play broadcasts of Murfreesboro High School football games. Jack's daily sports reports were a staple for fans of local and college athletic programs.
As his connection with Chowan University deepened, Jack earned the affectionate title of "Voice of the Braves" for his dedicated broadcasts of their football and men's basketball games over many years.
In 1989, he joined Chowan University as the Sports Information Director, Assistant to the Athletic Director, Director of the Hawks Athletic Center, and Executive Secretary of the Braves Club.
Jack's versatility extended to coaching and he proudly led the softball team for eight years. His contributions were honored in 2021 when he was inducted into the Chowan University Hall of Fame.
After his tenure at Chowan, Jack brought his expertise to RRGSD, where he coached the Chaloner Middle School softball team for 14 remarkable years, achieving an unprecedented conference record of 108-0.
The family will be holding a service at Askew Funeral Services in Roanoke Rapids on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to the girls' youth softball recreation department or the Chowan University softball team.
Jack Goldberg's legacy in sports broadcasting, coaching, and his profound impact on the community will be remembered and cherished by many.
