Bessie Mae Thompson Morris, 78, of Littleton, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019.

Bessie Mae was born October 6, 1940, in Halifax County to the late George Lewallen Thompson, Sr. and Cloy Green Thompson.

She is also preceded in death by her brother, George Lewallen Thompson, Jr.; her sister-in-law, Marion Gay Thompson; her sister, Vivian Thompson Browder.

Bessie Mae was a longtime member of Corinth United Methodist Church where she also was a longtime pianist. She attended nursing school in Winston-Salem where she graduated in the spring of 1961.

Bessie Mae worked for more than thirty-five years at Halifax Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She was devoted to family, work and was a farmer’s wife.

Bessie Mae is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Bernard Franklin Morris, Jr.; her sons, Bernard Michael Morris and his wife Debbie Parrish, Kenneth Hardy Morris, Douglas Thompson Morris and his wife Cheryl Hammack all of Roanoke Rapids, William Robert “Robbie” Morris and his wife Leigh Podruchny of Littleton and Jason Scott Morris and his wife Charity Elizabeth “Betsy” Gay of Jackson. Her brother, Lynwood Lee Thompson and his wife Dorma Dail of Chesterfield, VA; her brother-in-law Doniphan Saunders Browder, Jr. of Weldon; her grandchildren, Tristan Calen Morris, Garrett Michael Morris, Kenneth Scott Morris, Charles Grant Morris, Hamilton McCrae Morris, Landen Grey Morris, William Henry Hatchett Morris, Chloe Ann Morris, Katie Amanda Morris and Elizabeth Scott Morris; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Carolina Rest Home and a special caregiver, Tammy Strickland.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Corinth United Methodist Church with Rev. Stan Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, April 26, 2019 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home.
