Shawn Bush Scanlon, 55, of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, December 4, 2011.

 

Shawn was a native of Syracuse, NY, the son of the late John Simeon Scanlon.

He was a long-time scoutmaster in Roanoke Rapids and taught history at Southern Nash Middle School.  Shawn was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Roanoke Rapids.  He retired from the U. S. Marine Corps as a Master Sgt.

 

He is survived by his wife, Amanda Wilson Scanlon; his mother, Marilyn Bush Scanlon of Seattle, WA; two sons, John Wilson “Jack” Scanlon of Mayport, FL and Tedrick Nelson Scanlon of Roanoke Rapids; two sisters, Kim S. Leyden of Seattle and Queen Mae Butters of New York, NY; his brother, Kirk B. Scanlon of Austin, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints’ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Marjorie Holm and Rev. Duncan Jones officiating.  Mr. Scanlon will receive full military honors.  A reception will follow in the church parish house.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
