Thomas Allan “Tommy” Steadman, 79, passed away peacefully at his home, August 20, 2012.

Tommy was born March 31, 1933 in Lake City, South Carolina to the late Murray Steadman and Mabel Steadman.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Steadman, Jr.; sister, Delores Beauford, and his brother Robert Steadman.

Tommy attended Clemson University for two years and was later drafted into the United States Army where he served his country for two years.  He was an avid golfer and was a member of Chockoyette Country Club and served as President and was on the Board of Directors.  He had a career in the lumber business for forty eight years, thirty years with Coastal Lumber and eighteen years with Upton Lumber, starting at the ground level and working his way up through sales and into management.  Tommy touched a lot of people’s lives, made many friends, and was charitable to many in need.

Surviving is his wife, Cherri Steadman of the home; his children, Timothy Steadman and wife, Debbie, of Belhaven, Boyd Steadman of Little Washington, Renee Peterson and husband, John,  of New Jersey, Mark Mitchell and wife, Dana, of Gaston.  Also surviving is his grandchildren, Bryan Wellman, Jennifer Neal, Ashley Steadman, Megan Steadman, Samantha Peterson, and Taylor Peterson; great-grandchildren, Maddox Simpkins and Braelon Neal.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service, who is handling arrangements, Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 7-8:30 pm.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Randy Martin, Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the funeral home at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids.
