Cynthia “Cindy” Virginia Barber Collins, 53, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Cynthia was born February 1, 1966, in Roanoke Rapids to Tilghmon W. Barber, Sr and Virginia Cousins Barber.
She was a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School and also attended community college for a degree as a teacher assistant.
She lived life to the fullest! She was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church.
Her passion was child care, where she held many positions making a difference in the lives of kids; after all, she truly was a kid at heart. Cindy was loved by so many folks.
She worked at Little University preschool in Roanoke Rapids for six years, then relocated to Sanford, NC, where she worked at Fun and Learn Child Care, and also at the Skate Ranch.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her sister, Sheila Barber Rose; grandparents, Rena and Arthur Barber, and John and Alma Hawkins; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Survivors include her parents, Tilghmon “Tim” and Virginia Barber; husband, Willie Neil Collins; daughter, Crystal Jean Ray; step-daughter, Cheyenne Collins; step-son, Hunter Collins; mother-in-law, Linda Collins; sister, Tina Chamblee (Kyle) of Sanford; brother, Tilghmon W. “Timmy” Barber, Jr. and fiancé, Denise Thomas; former husband, Carl Ray, Jr.; and many special nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins and a host of life long friends. Her special friends and caretakers, Neil Collins, Judy Ellis, Jan Morgan, Edna Thompson, Stefanie Crutchlow, and Shannon Futrell.
The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service from 7 – 9 pm Wednesday, and at other times at the home of Virginia and Tim Barber, 45 S. Penny St, Roanoke Rapids.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday at Maranatha Baptist Church, 595 Zoo Rd North, in Roanoke Rapids, presided by Pastor Michael Little and Sister Joy Little. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
