Doris Warren Lyles, 92, of Weldon passed away Monday, February 24, 2020 at Carolina Rest Home.

Doris was born July 26, 1927 in Halifax County to the late Claude V. and Grace Pauline Warren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David L. Lyles, Sr.; her sisters Betty Jean Landen and Tickie Clinkinbeard; her brother, Wilber “Sonny” Warren.

Doris worked for Rabil’s Department Store in Weldon for thirty years until it closed and then was a retired Supervisor at the Department of Social Services.  She was an active and dedicated member of Weldon United Methodist Church and after it’s closing her membership was transferred to New Hope United Methodist Church. 

The family would like to give special thanks to Gloria Taylor, her longtime caregiver for the love and support for the past six years.

Doris is survived by her brother, E.C. “Fats” Warren and his wife Nora; her children, David Lyles, Jr. and his longtime companion Linda, Nancy Kendrick and her husband Steve, Judy Wright and her husband Greg and James “Jimmy” Lyles and his wife Teresa; her grandchildren, Sandy Lowrance and his companion Rhonda, Julie McLaughlin, Jamie Glasgow, Davey Lyles, Dori Beth Thompson and Carmen Lyles; her great-grandchildren, Devon Lyles, Taylor Norton, Coleman Glasgow, Hannah McLaughlin, Kaden McLaughlin and Mattie Thompson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Sue Owens officiating. The burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home of her son, Jimmy.
