In Loving Memory of Carol Lee (Ferguson) Casey

September 7, 1942 – July 24, 2026

Carol Lee (Ferguson) Casey, 83, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, passed away on July 24, 2026.

She was a kind, intelligent, and private woman whose greatest joy was caring for others. She always put others before herself, and her quiet faith sustained her through life’s hardships.

She was an exceptional cook who found happiness in preparing meals for the people she loved. She enjoyed trying new recipes and bringing family together around the table.

Before chronic pain changed her life, she loved gardening, soaking up the sunshine, spending time outdoors, listening to music, dancing, and traveling whenever she had the opportunity. Adventurous by nature, she embraced new experiences with curiosity and genuinely enjoyed learning about different places, people, and cultures. She believed every culture had something to teach and treated everyone with kindness and respect. She had a deep love of nature and a special fondness for dogs, especially her beloved beagles.

An avid reader whose curiosity never faded, Carol loved National Geographic and the novels of James Patterson, always eager to learn about the world beyond her own. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed the wit of Maxine comics, finding reasons to laugh even during difficult times.

For more than two decades, Carol lived with severe, debilitating back pain following surgery that left her disabled. She continued working for as long as she was able, determined to persevere despite her pain. During the last ten years of her life, she was largely bedridden. She also survived two strokes that affected her memory, but they never changed who she was. She remained kind, intelligent, loving, and resilient. Throughout those difficult years, she was lovingly cared for by her devoted husband, Robert, whose unwavering love, compassion, and dedication allowed her to remain at home surrounded by the family and life she cherished. Their marriage was marked by deep love, steadfast commitment, and an enduring friendship that carried them through every joy and hardship together.

Although her physical world became smaller, her capacity to love never did.

Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Casey; her daughters, Shanna Anderson and Laura Loiselle; her grandchildren, Meaghan and Christopher Anderson; her great-granddaughter, Charlotte Anderson; and her cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, with whom she shared a close and loving bond.

To me, she was more than my mom — she was my friend. We talked several times each week, sharing stories and laughter. At the end of nearly every conversation, she would tell me to “be a good girl,” and I would tell her the same. We always ended our conversations by telling each other, “I love you.”

She taught me that loving someone sometimes means letting them go.

To keep her in my heart, I have to let her go.

In keeping with her private nature and wishes, no public service will be held.
