Janice Whitby Chandler, 72, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, in ECU Health Medical Center.

Mrs. Chandler was born on September 6, 1953, in Halifax County, the daughter of the late Paul Norman Whitby and Nellie Lou Henry. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Earl Whitby and Joe Whitby.

Surviving include her husband John Chandler, her son Nicholas Allen, her stepdaughter Nicole Crawford, her step granddaughter Megan Crawford, her step great grandson, Asher Crawford, her sister Lou Ellen Clay Borrell and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janice was a member of First Evangelical Church in Gaston. She enjoyed swimming and skiing at the lake and worked for different banks in the area.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday , August 8, 2026 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastors Matthew Reider and Tony Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.
