An adored wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and dear friend, Jo Anne Perkinson Daniels passed away early Monday morning, September 14th, at the Duke Cancer Center with her husband and children by her side. She left us all far too soon.
Jo Anne was born in Roanoke Rapids on April 22, 1951, the third child and only daughter of Jack and Billie Perkinson of Littleton. She attended Littleton High School, and graduated in 1969.
Jo Anne chose Western Carolina University in Cullowhee for her Bachelor's Degrees in Social Work and in Recreation. While there, Jo Anne (“Perky”) was a very active member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority where she made life-long friends.
After graduation, Jo Anne met Jerry Lynn Daniels of Weldon. On July 26, 1975, Jo Anne and Jerry married and the two went on to have four children together. Jo Anne was very involved in their education and their extracurricular activities - becoming instrumental in developing both a swim team and a volleyball team at Halifax Academy.
Jo Anne also earned a teaching certification at Wesleyan College and later worked at the Halifax County Health Department for over 20 years, as a knowledgeable, kind, and generous pregnancy care manager.
She had a busy social calendar, staying involved as a Girl Scout leader for 10 years, a life-long member of the Littleton Presbyterian Church, President of the Littleton Woman's Club maintaining Person’s Ordinary, an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and an enthusiastic supporter of Littleton's growth and development.
Jo’s welcoming personality was a bright light wherever she went. She was always up for an adventure, whether at the beach, the mountains, or a family trip to Disney. She loved celebrating holidays, and you may have seen one of her holiday displays at the Littleton Post Office.
Jo Anne is survived by Jerry, her husband of 51 years, four children, Adrienne Ogburn of Apex, Jamie Fitzgerald and husband Danny of Las Vegas, Aaron Daniels and wife Sue of Cary, and Alison Hurst and husband Michael of Apex. She will be greatly missed by her five grandchildren Reid, Noah, Cora, Madison, and Lily. She is also survived by her eldest brother, James Perkinson of Suffolk. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Eddie, and her sister-in-law Kitty.
Her memorial service will be at Littleton Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 26th at 2:00pm, followed by a celebration of life at the Littleton United Methodist Fellowship Hall at 3:30pm. Flowers are welcome and Memorial donations may be made to organizations dear to her heart, such as the Littleton Presbyterian Church, the Littleton Woman’s Club, or the NCDOT Wildflower Program.
