Vernon Carl Kahler, 79, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Vidant Medical Center.

Vernon was born June 28, 1941 in Pierre, South Dakota to the late Alfred H. Kahler and Frieda W. R. Grosz Kahler. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Donald, Raymond, Kenneth and Cynthia.

Vernon was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. 

He adored his wife and was a loving father. He had a sweet smile, a gentle manner, loved people and was a good Christian man. 

Vernon loved to ride through the neighborhood on his tractor and visit. He was an excellent cook and loved gardening. He served his country during Vietnam in the U.S. Navy; after leaving the Navy he went to work for Telecable, now Charter Communications and worked his way up to Regional Vice-President.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Helen Kahler; his children, Ramona Carole Ricks and her husband Joel of Roanoke Rapids, Cindy Ellis of Fort Meyers, FL and Jimmy Ellis of Roanoke Rapids; his sister, Shirley Ann Vasquez of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren; ten nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, July 24, 2020 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Francis Kyle officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 6221 Newbys Bridge Rd, Chesterfield, VA 23832
