Loyd Stanley “Steve” Hasty, Jr.,  69, of Roanoke Rapids died Thursday, November 8. 2018 at Rex Hospital.

Steve retired from the NC Dept of Corrections with 31 years of service at Caledonia Correctional Institution.   

He was awarded the Order of the Longleaf Pine in 2008 by Gov. Michael Easley.  

Steve also volunteered with the Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad in his younger years.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, where he was on the Praise and Worship team.  

Above all this, he loved his family and his music.  

He was the best guitar player and singer in our world.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Amber P. Hasty; children, Loyd Stanley “Stevie” Hasty, III and wife Jane G. Hasty, and their children Carol Michelle Hasty, Stephen Michael Hasty, William Loyd “Billy” Hasty;

Roxanne Hasty Dickens and husband Paul J. Dickens, and their children Jessyka Lacy Dickens, Joshua Shane Dickens, Patrisia Rivera, Marialena R. Valencia and husband Edwin; 8 grandchildren, Jami Shyann May, Alexandria Lee May, Maci Carleen May, Kingslee Waylon-Loyd Dickens, Selena Mia Rivera, Angel Lorand Rivera, Arianna Nichole Valencia, and Destiny Rose Hasty.  Also survived by David Earl Paul and wife Teresa; Doris Woodard Hamm, and Tyrus Woodard and wife Susan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd S. Hasty, Sr, Lota Woodard Hasty, daughter, April Michelle Hasty; and granddaughter, Stephanie Elizabeth Hasty.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Monday at Hockaday  Funeral and Cremation Service.

The funeral service will be held at 1 pm Tuesday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service chapel, with burial to follow in Old Cedarwood Cemetery.
