Walter “Butch” Real Carlisle, 73, of Weldon passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 at his home.

Butch was born December 24, 1947 in Halifax County to the late James Acey Carlisle and Mary Finch Carlisle.  

He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Alfred Acey Andrew Carlisle, II; his brother, Daniel H. Carlisle; his sister, Shirley Diane Fisher and Doris Marie Tomlin.

Butch served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Butch was always carrying on with people and never met a stranger.

Butch is survived by his wife, Beverly Robinson Carlisle; his sons, John Clayton Ruffin and his wife Donna of Blandenboro, NC, Brian Thomas Ruffin and his wife Lynn of Greenville, NC, Alfred Acey Andrew Carlisle and his fiancé Jennifer Donaldson of Sanford, NC, John Paul Carlisle and his girlfriend Julie Crumpler of Nashville, NC; his daughters, Janie Lynn Patterson and her husband Sammy of Darlington, Beverly Rochelle Lee and her husband Robby of Roxboro, NC  and Candice Renee Carlisle and her fiancé Guy Shaw of Roanoke Rapids; his brother, James F. Carlisle of Roanoke Rapids; his sister, Sandra Kay Tomlinson of Roanoke Rapids. Twenty-three grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Crestview Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Col. Charles Morrison officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:30 P.M. Thursday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
