Gilbert Wilson Chichester, 75, of Jarvisburg, North Carolina and previously from Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2022 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alma Crawley Chichester, his father, Nathaniel Wilson Chichester, his brother Raymond Chichester, his sisters Dorothy Dalton and Wilma Athey.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Stacie M. Chichester, his daughters, Teresa Chichester, Anne-Marie Avina  (Josh Avina), Ashley Chichester, Taylor Chichester, and his son, Ryan Chichester (Rachel Chichester); his six grandchildren, Alex Howerton, Mary Alice Clements, Murdock Horton, Silas Wright, Stella Martinez, and Julian Wilson Chichester; his sisters, Shirley C. Smith (Dickie Smith) and Ruth Dickens.  Gilbert is also survived by several other nieces and nephews, cousins and other family members.  He also leaves behind his office personnel, Geoffrey P. Davis, Elizabeth Neville and Susan Dickerson.

Gilbert grew up in the Aurelian Springs Community and graduated from Aurelian Springs High School, was a Veteran and served in Vietnam while a member of the United States Air Force.  He later attended and received his Undergraduate Degree from N. C. Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Richmond T. C. Williams School of Law.  Gilbert served his community as an Attorney for numerous counties for 47 years.  He was licensed to practice in the Supreme Court of Virginia, the US District Court of Virginia, the NC Court of Appeals, US District Court of North Carolina in the Eastern and Western Districts as well as the United States Supreme Court.  Gilbert served as the Town Attorney for Littleton and the City of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina for many years.  He also served as the Attorney for Halifax Community College and Roanoke Chowan Community College as well as many other organizations.

While he was not working, Gilbert enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, but his favorite past-time was to sit outside in the sunshine with a good cigar and just enjoy the tranquility of being outdoors.  Gilbert never met a stranger and loved getting to know people.  He had a huge heart and was always available to help anyone if he could.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Littleton Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Gaskins officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:30 A.M. in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow at Bear Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, 15227 NC Hwy 48, Littleton, NC.
