Helen Marie "Nookie" Allen, 63, of Justice Branch Road in Halifax, NC passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, February 17, 2022, at her residence. 

Marie was born December 29, 1958, to late parents Wyona Jenkins and Gilbert C. Allen.

Marie graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and as an adventurous soul, set out on many ventures, ultimately settling in Halifax County when she met the love of her life Sam.

They shared a wonderful life together and she was a loving stepmother to her love Sam's two children Buddy and Candice. 

Marie adored her friendship to her best friend Michelle. 

She was the best friend anyone could ever wish to have. When she wasn't playing cards or board games with friends and family, she could be found lending an ear or extending a helping hand. 

Marie was devoted to her friends and family, whether it be helping her eldest sister Yvonne (or as Marie would call her "Bonnie") at her business or opening her home to her nephew Corey when he needed a place to stay. Some could say she was a 2nd mother to him.  

Not only could she be counted on to step up in serious times, but one could also always count on her to bring joy. 

Whether it be through that look she gave with a grin or other times when she would make the day brighter when she would bring the best macaroni and cheese to the family gathering. 

Her love extended to not only family and her friends, but to her dogs and cats as well. She loved all animals, especially the ones she called her own. 

One cannot speak of Marie's life and not mention how fond she was of Mickey Mouse as she loved to collect Mickey items. 

Marie was the feisty one in the family but could always be counted on. There will never be another so bluntly honest person who loved their family like our dear Marie.  

She will be missed dearly by all lucky enough to have known her. Her precious memory will be forever treasured in all our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her mother Wyona Jenkins; father, Gilbert C. Allen; brother-in-law, John C. Christenbury; nephew Corey Johnson; and her sweet Roxie. 

Left to cherish her memory are her family; the love of her life Sam Shearin; stepson Buddy Shearin and Wife Michelle; stepdaughter Candice Doughtie and husband Charlie; 5 grandchildren Zoey Joyner, Ava Shearin, Kelcey Doughtie, Charlie Doughtie, and Chance Doughtie; mother in law Carlyon Leonard; best friend Michelle Finney; brother in laws Steve Shearin, Stan Shearin, and Scott Shearin;  sisters Yvonne Allen Christenbury, Linda Allen Lee, and Terry Lynn Walker; Aunts Ruby V. Davis, Beverly Viverette, and Frances Viverette; Nieces Cindy C. Birdsong and Lisa C. Vowell; Nephew Johnny Christenbury; great nieces Brittany Odom and Josie Christenbury; great great niece Lucy Odom; and pets Milo and Mr. Bones. 

Graveside services will be held at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids Saturday, March 5, 2022, beginning at 2pm.
