William Vaiden “Old Maytag” Pearson, 81, departed this world on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC.  

He was born in Greensville County, Virginia on, October 16, 1940, to William Benjamin Pearson and Mary Gertrude “Taylor” Pearson, who both preceded him in death.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Irma Dianna “Williams” Pearson, his son Eddie Vaiden “Buck” Pearson, his mother-in-law, and father-in-law Eddie Wilson Williams and Daphnea Inell Williams, two brothers Carl Steve Pearson and Jonny Earl Pearson, and one sister Marion Geraldine “Pearson” Martin, and three good friends Jack Avery, Jonny Allen, and Michelle Clay Massey, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC.

His survivors include his daughter Joy Denise Pearson, his brother Benny Rogers Pearson and wife, Barbara of Roanoke Rapids, NC, his special sister and chef, Pamela Wrenn of Roanoke Rapids, his sisters, Madeline Cifers and husband, Bud, Cynthia Johnson and husband, Dale, Dale Davis and husband, Stanley, and Crystal Capps, all of Emporia, VA, sister-in-law Daphnea Thompson, and husband, Bert, sister-in-law, Debra Chambers, sister-in-law Alice Mae Pearson, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC and sister-in law, Alice R. Pearson, of Emporia, VA. Additional survivors include  his side mechanic, Kira Nicole “Nip Nap” Edmondston, his Dachshund Jimmy Pearson, “The Little Chaps” (Rooker, Kennah,and Anslee Wrenn), friends William and Lynn Camp, Angela Wells, Stewart Pernell, Jimmy King and many nieces, nephews, good co- workers, and neighbors.

Vaiden spent his life as an auto mechanic and body man.  It was not only his career path but his pleasure and hobby.  

He retired from the Halifax County School Bus Garage in 2002, to channel his talents back to the Hot Rods and cars that he loved.  

He never saw a car he did not love.  

Vaiden also learned quite a lot about AKC Dachshund Breeding throughout his life and was quite successful with that as well.  

He thoroughly enjoyed his years with “The Hounds” as he called them.  

In all, Vaiden proudly owned 39 vehicles citing his 1937 Ford “Ugly Duckling” as his favorite followed by his 1958 Gold Plymouth Fury, his 1984 Camaro “Rose Red”, his Chevrolet Truck “Grimace”, and his VW Beetle “Green Gene.”  Every car had a name and a special place in his heart.  

Vaiden is an honorary lifetime member of the Stray Cats Car Club. Vaiden earned and maintained AKC distinguished breeder of excellence status for Dachshunds. 

Vaiden was a Nascar fan. Vaiden enjoyed Hank Williams music, The Western Channel, Hee-Haw, The Grand Ole Opry, and Delicious Southern Country Cooking.  His motto was, “do it once and do it right.” 

“Old Maytag” will surely be missed.

Dr. Bane Angles, Minister will conduct a funeral service in the Chapel at Hockaday Funeral Service Monday, July 11, 2022, at 2:00 pm, Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service from 6-8 pm.
