Mr. Wade Fred Barracato, 86, of Halifax, died Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Nash UNC Health Care in Rocky Mount.

Wade was born November 12, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of Rosario and Adell Barracato, and shortly thereafter moved with his family to Staten Island, NY, where he spent his life growing up.  Following high school graduation, he served in the US Army.

Wade loved children, his animals, and coaching softball.  He was a retired firefighter from the Fort Bragg Fire Department.

Wade was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Roanoke Rapids.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Andrews Barracato; his son, Wade Salvatore Barracato and wife Ashley; grandchildren, Carter, Lawson and Everly; and several nieces and nephews.

Wade was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Leon Kowalski and John Barracato; and sisters Frances Kowalski and Daisy Barracato.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Monday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, August 2, 2022 from the graveside at Nahala Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 11890 Highway 258, Scotland Neck, NC.  Brother George Conner and Bishop Mark Given will preside.

The family asks that those attending either gathering to please follow Covid 19 protection recommendations.
