Mary Killebrew Brewer, 84, died Monday, November 14, 2022 in her Roanoke Rapids home.

Mary was born April 13, 1938 in Roanoke Rapids, the daughter of John Lindsey and Annie Askew Killebrew.   

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alton Phillips “AP” Brewer; a daughter, Joann Rook; granddaughter, Brenda Allen; and a sister, Barbara Hedspeth.

Mary attended First Baptist Church in Gaston.  

She enjoyed crocheting and watching the shows on the Hallmark channel.  

Mary was a dedicated public servant, achieving the rank of Lieutenant with the Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad, where she served for 14 years as secretary. She had also served as a member of the Gaston Rescue Squad. 

Survivors include her sons, Jeffrey Rook of Halifax, Doug Nelson and Brian Brewer (Jennifer) of Roanoke Rapids; daughters, Susan Lynch (Jerry) of Roanoke Rapids, Sandra Spillane (Mickey) of Alabama, Cathy Covert (Bill) of Virginia; brothers, Joseph Killebrew of Smithfield, Thomas Killebrew of Roanoke Rapids; sister, Shirley Nelson of Raleigh; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Friends may visit with the family from 12 noon until 12:45 pm Friday at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.  The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday in the funeral home chapel, with Pastors Eric Bass and Russ Collins presiding.  Interment will follow in Shiloh Methodist Church cemetery in Gaston.  Members of the Rescue Squad will serve as pallbearers.
