Donna Jean Walker Wheeler, 92, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Carolina Rest Home.

Donna Jean was born April 1, 1931, in Rush County, Indiana to the late Merrell C. Walker and Ophelia Katherine Heath Walker. 

She was also preceded in death by her husband of almost sixty-four years, Clyde P. Wheeler; her loving “special” parents, Valey and Laura Heath (maternal grandparents); Martha and Oren Whitton her maternal aunt and uncle after her mother passed away when Donna Jean was seven years old.

Donna Jean was a long-time member of East 10th Street Christian Church. Donna Jean started teaching in church at age 16 which continued until her late 80’s. 

She was the church organist and choir director for many years and was the staff organist at Branch Funeral Home and Hockaday Funeral Home for many years and the church secretary for twenty-four years. 

Donna Jean was a graduate of Orlando High School in Florida and attended Atlantic Christian College.

Donna Jean is survived by her son, Terry Paul Wheeler and his wife Shelia of Roanoke Rapids; her half-brother, Danny B. Walker of Watsonville, CA; her grandchildren, Laura Beth Pair (Joseph) and Collin Paul Wheeler (Emily); her great grandchildren, Carter Ashton Pair, Finley Grace Pair, Lincoln, Cordelia and Sullivan Paul Wheeler.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, July 15, 2023, at East 10h Street Christian Church with Jason Yeatts, Minister and Greg Hand, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends Friday, July 14th, 2023, in the Fellowship Hall at East 10th Street Christian Church from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M.
