Henry "Buddy" Elton Johnson, 86, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away on August 4, 2023, at ECU North in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Buddy was born on September 4, 1936, in South Carolina. 

He proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956. After his military service, Buddy embarked on a successful career, working at Weldon Veneer and Coca-Cola Bottling. Additionally, he owned several small businesses, including a gas station, towing service, and an auto repair shop and worked for longtime friend Randy Whichard.

Buddy was a jack of many trades and was always there to take care of his family. 

If something needed to be built or fixed, he was the go-to person. Despite having to drop out of school at a young age to help on the family farm, Buddy obtained his GED in 1987, showcasing his determination and commitment to self-improvement.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Buddy cherished his personal and family relationships.

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Burdette, his first wife, Judith Faith Johnson, his son, James "Eddie" Johnson and brothers, Fred Herring and Robert Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Johnson, daughter Dee (Jerry) Barnes of Littleton, and daughter-in-law Kathy Johnson of Littleton. Buddy was also blessed with two grandchildren; Collin (Dakota) Barnes of Littleton and Cody (Jenny) Barnes of Belleville, IL, as well as three great-grandchildren: Emily, Silas, and a baby boy Barnes due any day now.

Three stepchildren; Donna, Sandy and Carl all out of State. Nine step grandchildren and six great step grandchildren all out of State.

Buddy also leaves behind three sisters: Lois Keeter of Roanoke Rapids, Laura Steele, and Tenny (Jimmy) Edwards of Myrtle Beach, SC, many nieces and nephews and special family members, including; Marie Thomason, Rocky (Nancy) Hobbs, Ethel Revells, and Stan Pittman.

Buddy's legacy will live on through the memories shared by his loved ones. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family and his ability to fix and build anything. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Please join us in celebrating Buddy's life and honoring his memory. Graveside service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 11, 2023 in Cedarwood Cemetery with Pastor Matthew Smith officiating.  Friends may sign the online register by visiting www.hockadayfs.com
