Frances Dunagin Capps, 89, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2019, at Signature Healthcare.

Frances was born May 4, 1929 in Orange County, NC, to the late Arthur Dunagin and Emily Young Dunagin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alton Capps, Sr. who was the love of her life; her brother, Delma Dunagin; and her sister, Thelma Williams.

She moved to Roanoke Rapids in 1954 where she settled into the role of housewife, raising their three children. Frances was an excellent cook who enjoyed making delicious meals for her family; and baking cakes for church functions. Some of her other hobbies were gardening, crafts, and shopping. Her “never give-up” spirit, sense of humor, and ready smile were an inspiration to all. She is much beloved by her children, their spouses, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Frances is survived by her sons, Alton “Buck” Capps, Jr. and his wife Susan of Roanoke Rapids and Ronnie Capps and his wife Jenny of Fayetteville; her daughter, Rosemary Jones and her husband Kenneth of Roanoke Rapids; her sisters, Carolyn Woodard and her husband Ray of Hope Mills, NC, and Helen Dunman of Efland; her grandchildren, Jason Capps, Kevin Jones, Kenny Jones, and Amy Pittman; her great-grandchildren, Alex Capps, Brent Rowland, Kayleigh Jones, and Kara Jones, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Hockaday Funeral Home, with Rev. Randy Martin and Rev. Danny Jones officiating.

Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M. Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service, and other times at the home of her daughter, Rosemary Jones.
