Samuel “Sambo” Martin West of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away peacefully at ECU-North hospital on Monday March 4, 2024.  

Sambo was born on March 30, 1951, in Embro, NC.  

He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Bessie West, his brothers Mike West, Donnie West and sister Joyce Nowell.

Sambo is survived by his wife Brenda West, his sons Sammy “Cut Buddy” of the home, Steve (Tammy) West of Littleton, daughter Brenda (Lee) Kinton of Youngsville, grandchildren Ashley West of Littleton and Brian (Madison) Kinton of Youngsville, brother Joe (Gail) West of Roanoke Rapids and sisters Patricia “Pat” (Elliot) Collins of Emporia, Linda (Thad) O’Briant of Roanoke Rapids, Sheila “Kay” Ross of Roanoke Rapids.

Sambo was a loving husband, dad, brother, and friend. He was the business owner of West  & Sons Garage. He loved Fords — diehard — mudslinging and truck pulling.

He was a member of Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church of Roanoke Rapids.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation.

Funeral services will be on Friday March 8, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church of Roanoke Rapids with Pastor Tony Smith presiding. 

Interment will be in Cedarwood Cemetery following the service.
