Michael Wayne Reaves, 74, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

Mike was born in Halifax County on May 5, 1949, to the late Phillip Errington Bruce Reaves and Edith Gibson Reaves.

Mike served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in Beirut and Vietnam. Mike was also active in the AMVETS local post 101, he served as a former State Commander, National District II Commander and spent an untold number of hours helping his fellow veterans getting them enrolled at VA health care and getting to and from the VA Hospital. Mike was a 32-degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite and also served in many positions in the Lodge and was District DDGL. Mike was also a Shriner.

Mike is survived by his wife Jean Reaves of the home, his children, Dallas Hayes Reaves, Michael Charles Reaves and his wife Nicole Hux Reaves, Angel Reaves, Chris Reaves and his wife Emily “Susie” Reaves, Eva Faye Reaves Ott and her husband B.J., Willie Gibson Reaves and his wife Christina Page Reaves and Austin Reaves; his grandchildren, Dalton Reaves and his wife Rocio, Damien Reaves, Michael Thomas Reaves and his wife Jessica, Ella Reaves, Christian Reaves and his wife Cassie, Kimmy Reaves, Jillian Ott, Kennedy Ott, Cadence Reaves, William Reaves and Emmaleigh Reaves; his sister Theresa Reaves Janko and husband Scott Janko; and seven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 23, 2024, in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Randy Martin and Pastor Chris Reaves officiating. 

Military and Masonic Rites will be rendered. 

The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:30 P.M. at the funeral home prior to the service and other times at the home of his daughter, Eva Ott.
