William Lafayette Hudson passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025 in ECU Health North Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Berry Frank Hudson and Willie Bett Hudson; one sister, Winifred Foley and sister-in-law, Margie Hudson.
He is survived by his wife Peggy Hux Hudson, one niece, Debbie Crawford of Murrells Inlet, SC, one nephew, Jeff Foley of Washington DC, three great nephews, one great niece, and four great great nephews.
He was a life-long resident of Roanoke Rapids, graduating from Roanoke Rapids High School in 1951, and was Immediately drafted into the military, serving In the U. S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951 - 1955, reaching the rank of Aviation Ordnanceman 2nd Class. Upon discharge, he returned to the area, applied and was accepted to N. C. State College., making the Dean's List and graduating with a B.S. Degree in Industrial Arts-Technical Option in 1960.

Mr. Hudson was a master woodcarver, earning several Blue Ribbons, both locally and at the State level, earning the title of Best in Show. His carvings were on display several times at the local library. However, his greatest joy was helping those in need, with most being totally unaware of his generosity.
Bill was a long-time member of First United Methodist; and New Hope United Methodist; Widow’s Son Lodge 519; American Legion Post 38, and the Lake Gaston Computer Club.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 23, 2025 in Old Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 – 2:45 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service. Friends may sign the online register by visiting www.hockadayfs.com
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids, or American Legion Post 38 in Roanoke Rapids.
